李行德教授本科畢業於索思摩大學(Swarthmore College),主修英國文學,後赴加州大學洛杉磯分校攻讀語言學,獲語言學博士。研究興趣為語言與認知,從語言學、心理學及哲學等視角探討語言獲得與語言可習性問題、研究重點為粵語和普通話的母語獲得。李教授曾任香港中文大學文學院副院長(研究)、語言學及現代語言系主任、教務會優化雙語教育委員會主席;現任Language Acquisition 及 《當代語言學》等學術期刊編委。曾領導籌建數個早期兒童語言語料庫,包括香港粵語兒童語料庫(CANCORP),亦為香港兒童口語(粵語)能力量表(HKCOLAS)中粵語語法測試單元的核心設計者。
